A Genius Trick for a Thick and Cold Smoothie, Every Time

There is no denying it, I love my smoothies thick and cold. Years ago, I learned this genius hack for making my smoothie super chilly and creamy, like a milkshake, that has forever changed the way I make my post workout drink.

The secret: I always add a half of a frozen banana and one cup of frozen zucchini into my blender as a base before I throw in my protein, collagen and other superfoods – ensuring I get in a serving of fruit and vegetables in each smoothie. And the bonus? Since zucchini is virtually tasteless, you won’t even know it’s there, making it a great way to sneak in some extra veggies for kids or picky adults.

But the key is to plan ahead.

Each week I prepare by taking out a few large casserole pans (any large pan will do). I go ahead and half the ripe bananas and dice up the zucchini into small chunks. I spread them out in the dishes, carefully making sure they don’t touch one another, and pop them into the freezer for about an hour. (This crucial step prevents your bananas and zucchinis from sticking together when stored in the freezer).  I then throw the bananas and zucchini into separate tupperware containers and store them in the freezer until needed.

Genius, right? I think so. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Stay well,
S.
